Amer (Amber) Fort,, Jaipur
The Kachchawahas ruled from Amber, 11 km from Jaipur, for seven centuries. With a history so old, it is not unexpected that there is a lot of the past that can be traced in its archaeological history. While many of the early structures have either disappeared or ruined, those dating from the16th century on are in a remarkable state of preservation.
Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur
Jaigarh or Fort of Victory was constructed by Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur in 1726. This grand fort has the largest wheeled cannon or Jaivan perched on its battlements. Jaigarh Fort was used as the treasury of the royal family of Jaipur. The Fort offers superb views of Jaipur town and the nearby Amber Fort. The fortifications, museum and the ingenious water storage system are worth seeing on your tour of Jaigarh Fort.
Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur
The Nahargarh Fort was built by Sawai Raja Jai Singh in 1734. Since Jaipur was his capital, the Nahargarh Fort was strategically important and was built as a means of bolstering the defense of Amer. It was also known as the Tiger Fort. New additions were made to the fort in the 19th century by Sawai Ram Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh II. The older parts of he fort are being hard hit by the ravages of times but the newer additions are quite captivating.
Chittorgarh Fort
The fort is on a 280-hectare site on the top of a 180-metre-high hill, which rises abruptly from the surrounding plain. There are many palaces within the fort like Rana Kumbha Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace, Tower of Victory and Padmini's Palace, which are a must see for the tourists. This hilltop fortress of Chittorgarh epitomizes the romantic and doomed ideal of Rajput chivalry.
Jaisalmer (Sonar) Fort
Jaisalmer Fort is a monument worth visiting and worth retaining in your conscious mind. Like various other cities of Rajasthan, in Jaisalmer too you will find different facets of its own glorious heritage. Though you can find historical monuments scattered all over the city, the Jaisalmer Fort will immediately command your attention. Made of sand stones and locally known as Sonar Quila, the Jaisalmer Fort is a dominating structure amidst sands.
Meherangarh Fort, Jodhpur
The Meherangarh Fort, situated on a 125 m high hill, is the most impressive and formidable fort in Rajasthan. The construction of the fort was begun by Maharaja Rao Jodha in 1459 and was completed by Maharaja Jaswant Singh (1638-78).
Junagarh Fort, Bikaner
Junagarh Fort in Bikaner is an impressive fort built by a Rajput ruler. Raja Rai Singh in 1587. A fort that has never been conquered, though it has been attacked many times, Junagarh Fort is an impressive monument, with huge towers and battlements for defence. Raja Rai Singh who lived in the times of the Mughal Emperors Akbar and Jahangir, was a famous military leader. He was rewarded for his bravery in battle by revenue from parts of Gujarat and Burhanpur.
